83 Suzuki 850 GSX carb rebuild myself?

I want to flush and clean my carbs along with the adjusting of the valve needle and replace the seals. is this something a novice can do on my bike? or do I have to pay the 800 to get this done 400 of that being 5 hours to flush. I have already check the compression its in the norms, but when it is started it dies soon has you touch the throttle my father thinks the carbs need to be cleaned any other thoughts or things I should check before diving into this?
